I sincderely doubt that the story will be flattering-- if it is a Q&A story I think it is more likely that April and the girls will simply hang themselves with their own words.

The idea of race being a social construct is insane.

I'll even go so far as to admit that maybe it's possible that all races of people descended from the same ancestors, but even if that's true there was a branching off at some point, and different races emerged developing differing characteristics.

A trained person can distinguish race just from a skeleton, or even a single bone.

That's the socially constructed part. When you live in a racist culture, it might shape the way you see reality and you might think these things are true, but they won't stand up to scientific scrutiny.

That is precisely why scientists have come up with rational social grouping for race in relation to their biological differences and how those "races" choose to define themselves.

This has been explained more fully before by people more articulate than me. The whole point of classification is to serve a useful purpose.

That first article was a bit odd. I'm surprised that someone would still think that measuring people's head's would come up with any meaningful results. The correlation could be +1 and that still wouldn't prove that race is the cause, or even the strongest determining factor of someone's IQ. What about the Flynn Effect? Furthermore, scientists point to the lateral prefrontal cortex as the 'site of IQ'.
 

That part in the first article about "a strong positive correlation (.44) between brain size and IQ" is misleading -- .44 is a less than moderate correlation.

There is, however, a correlation between violent crime and ice cream sales. Does eating ice cream cause violent crime? No, it's probably the hot weather having an influence here.
 

There's also a correlation between Eagle Scouthood and serial killing - a disproportionately high number of apprehended serial killers were Eagle Scouts, including John Wayne Gacy and Jeffrey Dahmer - but that doesn't mean one causes the other.

And the .44 figure is high - the most reliable estimate is around .35. In other words, given that the best and most recent data, the NAESP math section, indicates that the Black-White testing gap has narrowed to about 10 points, only around 12% of the variation could possibly be explained by brain size differences - a little over one point.

Besides, Rushton's use of brain data is well-known to be bogus when applied to racial variation. Just to begin with, the formula he uses to measure cranial capacity - the German formula - is commonly understood to be inaccurate for African head shapes, which are typically less spherical than European craniums.

People in colder climates usually evolve spherical skull shapes to keep body heat from radiating away in that environment.

When you apply the Ainu forumula for dolichocephalic
skull shapes more common for African Americans, the differential virtually disappears.

That's a good example of why Rushton is a racially-motivated hack.

The reporter byline is for Ryan Parry. He moved to the States last spring. He's the reporter who was able to get a job in Buckingham Palace with fake credentials prior to Bush's stay there in 2003. That sounds like the type reporter April would let into her house. Besides, if she hadn't OKed the story, I'm sure we would have heard about it by now! The story is over 2 weeks old!
